## Agreement comes first

Goldback exchange is voluntary. Before presenting a note, ask whether the business accepts Goldbacks, which reference rate it uses, and how it handles fractional amounts. A short agreement at the start prevents confusion at the register.

The official rate provides a shared reference, but participants can agree on another value. The important part is transparency. Display the rate source and date if you are a merchant; confirm them if you are a buyer.

## Mixed payments make exact exchange easier

A transaction rarely divides into a perfectly round number of Goldbacks. Mixed payment solves that. Pay the whole-note amount in Goldbacks, then settle the remainder in dollars—or pay a slightly larger Goldback amount and receive dollar change if the merchant supports that method.

Our calculator shows all three states: underpayment, exact payment, and overpayment. It also preserves the entered values in the URL so two parties can review the same example. The result is informational; the parties still decide how to settle.

## Merchant operations

Merchants should define acceptance, rounding, refunds, tax treatment, staff training, and end-of-day handling before launch. Keep Goldback receipts and cash records clear. If accounting or tax treatment is uncertain, consult a qualified professional familiar with your jurisdiction.

A good local-currency experience is ordinary and legible: the rate is visible, the math is repeatable, and neither party is surprised. Adoption grows through consistent transactions, not extravagant claims.
